From Barrel to Bottle

So many steps are needed to get our wine from vine to glass.... you go from the baby grapevine to vine, to trellis, and cluster, then you pick and go to basket, then to bin, table, press, tank, crusher, tank, pump, barrel, bak to tank, stainless steel, finally comes the bottling truck and bottle!

The process through which we then fill, cork and capsule the bottle, in which the glue slowly melts to help stick the docg slips and through which the wine is finally labeled and put in casses is documented in these pictures from our last bottling on May 31st 2013. Ninethousand bottles in 5 hours.....non male!

The Festa of Petroio

Incredible to think that up until 5:30pm cats and dogs were coming down from the sky!!! Then amazingly enough mass was over and the sky opened up, the sun came out, clouded only by the smoke coming from the grill, sausages were cooked, music started, heard all the way through the hills up to Vagliagli. This is our party of the year and this year it started like this and lasted till night.
Many frieds to showed up, from far or near, from back in the day or met the day before.
What a wonderful Sunday afternoon!

From the time that I took over managing the Family Wine Estate, I have literally and physically moved to Petroio in order to follow carefully and passionately, first hand, hands on,  all the multiple phases of the business. I grew up in Rome and in 2008 had literally no idea what was in store for me.
I learned to know the plants that provide us with our Chianti Classico.  Obviously I had no clue how to execute a pumping over or how to make a blend, but I learned that as well. I have immersed myself in every phase of the business, both productively and commercially, learning from my mistakes and from the experience and know-how of those around me.
Thus I’ll tell my story, my “Days at Petroio” in this blog; every day different, every day stimulating. I’ll share the beauty of these places that are my daily home in the photos.
I’ll tell about life in the country, the many encounters that the world of wine allows one to make and enjoy, my activity as the regional (Tuscan) delegate in the group of Women in Wine and my fast growing interest and work with the young people in ANGA (National Association of Young Agriculturists).
